Have you ever had injectable treatments? Then you know they can cause uncomfortable side effects the first few days after the procedure. One of the most annoying effects is bruising, which can make you self-conscious — especially when it appears on your face or neck.
Luckily, at Radiance MedSpa DC, we understand the issue and have some tips to help you prevent bruising.
Dr. Vikisha Fripp suggests using these tips before and after your procedure. Not only will they aid in recovery, but they'll help disguise and even eliminate bruising after an injection.
You know you need to avoid taking certain medications 24 hours before your procedure. But, you should also avoid these medications and supplements at least a week before your procedure:
It’s also a good idea to avoid taking a multivitamin, as they can include one of the above. Remember to check with your doctor to make sure you're cleared to stop taking your medication for several days.
Avoiding these supplements and meds will ensure that you bruise less. If you're uncomfortable after the procedure, use Tylenol or generic acetaminophen, rather than NSAIDs or aspirin.
Alcohol has similar properties to NSAIDs and aspirin that can cause you to bruise more easily. Avoiding alcohol for at least 48 hours before your treatment, and several days afterward, can help cut down your chance of bruising.
We’ve been telling you what NOT to take, but what you SHOULD take is just as important.
Arnica tablets can help reduce swelling, as long as you take them up to five days before your procedure. You’re also going to want to take bromelain, in some form or another, two weeks before your treatment. Bromelain helps reduce swelling and inflammation. It’s an enzyme you can find in pineapple, so get your dose by consuming pineapples before and after the procedure.
Talk to your doctor before taking any medication to make sure it's safe.
Make sure to ice the area after your procedure to help constrict the blood vessels and bring down swelling. This is a great option after you've received fillers or Botox injections. However, refrain from using ice after a microneedling and/or PRP treatment.
Don’t get yourself into a sweaty situation. You’re going to want to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun. Although you might want to sunbathe, that could increase your chances of bruising and swelling.
You should also avoid vigorous exercise. Keeping your heart rate under 100 is key to avoiding bruising. If you’re still looking for a way to get your daily workout, try walking at a brisk pace.
Severe bruising doesn’t have to be part of your injectable treatment. Make sure you're following these tips, as well as talking to your doctor. The best way to avoid bruising is to be knowledgeable about what you can do before, after, and during the procedure.
